Masdoon/Fediverse frustrations

I don't think I've ever posted about it here, but I've tried getting into Fediverse stuff twice, and each time I left frustrated because it always felt like I was missing out on stuff I actually liked. Sure there's tech stuff but it's really hard to find things outside of that like touhou fanart. Also struggled with the fragmentation aspect, while I understand blacklisting instances with terrible content (racist garbage, loli porn, general harassment, etc), a lot of Masdoon instances I've scouted out have huge blocklists that give me an echo chamber feel at times. If I find an instance that I like (probably will be infosec.exchange but I'm still looking) I'll update this post.

I did also try Kbin/Lemmy, but the instance I'm on is barren outside of news and tech stuff, and overall feels like a worse, clunky version of Reddit (which is saying a lot because Reddit already sucks ass).
